Photography: A marriage of Art & Technology. Photography is a combination of art and technology. While art is eternal, technology is a fast paced world. The artistic eye, the composition, the light and colors and the emotion translated in the photo are still what make a photo an artwork. But to achieve the best quality possible, photographers have to master the technology. The camera is to the photographer, what the paintbrush is to the painter and the typewriter is to the writer. Whatever tool used, what really counts is the final artwork. Although a better tool will certainly make it easier to achieve a higher quality work. A camera, whether film or digital, is never able to capture the “reality” and the beauty of what the eye sees. Try to shoot a bright sky landscape, and you will either have a white sky or a black foreground. That is because the camera, no matter how expensive, will not capture all the nuances absorbed by the naked eye. This is where mastering technology helps photographers. By pre-processing, using filters or flashes, and by post-processing, in the dark room or with digital computer software, the photographer is able to adjust colors, contrast and brightness so that the end result looks more like what his eye really saw and what inspired his art in the first place. Nadim Yared’s engineering background is certainly a valuable asset to his photographic journey. It allows his photography to evolve naturally using the newest technologies. Yared is a firm believer in technological advances; because he understands technology, he is always willing to embrace new tools that will open up new possibilities and give him more control of his artwork. The latest technologies allow Yared to control his photography from the initial click to the final print.
