Late May 2005, driving from Canyon de Chelley in Arizona to Monument Valley, we stopped on the road for a break. The sun was high in the sky. The sky was picture perfect blue. I waited to see if a couple of clouds will gather around the butte, but they didn't.
About an hour later, the sky created a very light line of white, probably remanants of a cirrus cloud in the distance. This added the touch I needed for this picture.
The desert in Northern Arizona is hot. Very hot, even in the Spring. I wonder how it would be in the summer. I expect that we will see haze coming off the ground, when temperature exceeds 100 degrees.
From a compositional perspective, this picture exists in both Horizontal and Vertical. Both are striking in the contrast of colors, between the warm yellow and the cold blue. But they are also very different, the balance between cold and warm is not the same between the two compositions.
