Canyon de Chelley, May 2005. Spider Rock is an interesting rock formation in the canyon: a straight collumn rising over 800 feet high. The local Navajo named it Spider Rock, after one of their most important deity called Spider Woman. It is believed that Spider Woman lived on the top of this rock.
The S-shape curve of the river, seen by the surrounding trees, contrasts nicely with the straight vertical lines of the Spider Rock. These trees give a scale when compared with the 800 feet rock.
This picture was taken right after sunset, as the warm sky filled the canyon with warm but subtle colors. In this warm shade, the details are amazingly visible, thanks to an air clear of any pollution in the canyon.
