Canyon de Chelly, pronounced “Chey” is located in northern Arizona, on the borders with Utah. A Navajo tribe inhabits this canyon, and the land is cultivated. Peach trees and corn are grown. This view is taken from Tsegi overlook, on the south rim.
The walls of the canyon are pink-orange-red rocks, and very steep. Because of the depth, after sunset, the canyon is lit through light reflected off the cliffs, and thus, tainted by the colors of the rocks.
After sunset, around 8:00pm local time, late May 2005, the sky was filled with clouds that were receiving the last rays of light, coloring the entire set-up in warm pink colors. The sky is slightly reflected in the water. I waited a little until a mom-cow decided to cross the river, under the attentive eyes of her calf.
